Her book has been called an "urgent chronicle of contemporary immigration." It's the story of  twin brothers growing up in El Salvador in the wake of the civil war, being forced to flee to the US as unaccompanied minors, and struggling to find a new life and a way to support their families back home. The story of one family in The Far Away Brothers is the story of millions of refugees forced from their homes around the world. It's a story that people must be aware of, that demands not only attention, but action in the face of current and threatened crimes against humanity.
