In A Rare Time When Revolution Could Become Possible…DONATE to—and Be Part of—the Revcom.us Fall/Winter $30K Fund Drive Revcom.us is launching a fall/winter fund drive to raise an urgently needed $30,000. Why should you—and many, many others—donate to and be part of this effort? This is a rare time when an actual revolution to overthrow this monstrous system—which threatens the very future of humanity and the planet—and bring into being a radically new society as envisioned in the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America authored by Bob Avakian (BA) could become possible. As BA writes, in order to seize on this opportunity: People need to raise their heads and broaden their sights, look beyond what is immediately around them, break with illusions and phony “solutions,” and take up the scientific method of the new communism to get a basic understanding, and keep on deepening the understanding, of what is actually going on, what are the very heavy stakes in all this, and what are not only the very negative but also the very positive possibilities for radical change that exist within all this.
Revcom.us plays a crucial role in all this! There is no site like Revcom.us in the world today… where people in this country and internationally can get introduced to and connect with the leadership we have in BA… where people can get a lively scientific analysis of major developments in society and the world, how they relate to the system we live under, what the interests of humanity are, how revolution is the only solution, and how people can and are moving to build toward that revolution. Our bilingual site reaches thousands of Spanish-speaking people the world over. We‘ve now made technological changes to the site, enabling us to respond more quickly to events, involve new forces in working on the site itself, and most importantly (as the site expands), help Revcom.us play a much more dynamic role in organizing forces for revolution. Big funds—$30,000 in this fund drive—are needed to enable Revcom.us to become even more powerful. This is where you come in. Financially supporting the revolution is a very concrete and important way to be part of this revolution. - One-time donations are important. At the same time, it is crucial that Revcom.us have an expanding base of sustainers, people who give on a regular basis. If you’re not a sustainer yet, we urge you to become one.
- Reach out to your friends, family, people you know at work, and others to tell them why you’re donating to Revcom.us and urging them to do the same. Send them this email, or adapt it for your own message. Call up people or talk to them face to face. If you prefer, introduce us to people you know, and our phone-banking team can call them up to get more into Revcom.us and the fund drive. It will not be my last but what I am really excited by is the prospect of taking this fund drive and revcom.us out to others. I have already started by reaching out with an email that starts out: To put it simply and bluntly, there is simply no way to fully understand what is going on in the world today, including the possibilities to wrench a better future for humanity and the planet out of the unfolding horrors of the world around us without revcom.us, starting with the singular platform it provides for the pathbreaking work of Bob Avakian (BA), the architect of The New Communism and who, without hype, is the most important political leader in the world today.
I go on to provide links to some of BA's most recent pieces along with a couple of other recent articles and the Donate page. I got an immediate response from a couple of academics who both said they were making contributions. Neither of whom read revcom.us as thoroughly as I would like, but one included an invitation to get together to talk more. The more I have thought about this, the more people come to mind that I can reach out to – activists, academics, family members. There is a long list and I am looking forward to reaching out to all of them – including seeing if some will become regular sustainers. I hope to learn a lot in the process. While I have always loved Revolution and looked to it for leadership, I feel like the website has made a real leap in the last several months, both in terms of content and format. I think "What You Need to Know and Engage This Week About the World and Revolution" is one of the great new developments at the website. There is so much going on in the world and so much content at the website, it is very helpful to be able to start off by reading this commentary.
