Carl Dix joins us from Charlotte, North Carolina, to talk about the recent police murders of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa OK, and Keith Lamont Scott, in Charlotte. Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sept 16, Terence Crutcher is shot and killed with his hands up by Tulsa Police, when his car was stalled on the road. Charlotte, NC, Sept 20. Four days later, Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year-old disabled Black man, is murdered by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police as he was waiting on his son to be dropped off after school. Following this murder, people in Charlotte rebelled for two straight nights, so far. The North Carolina governor has declared a state of emergency and deployed the National Guard against the people. Carl Dix is a representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party, and co-founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network. Davis was sentenced to death in 1991 for the 1989 murder of a white police officer in Savannah, GA. Despite the absence of physical evidence linking Davis to the murder -- and an international campaign to save his life -- the state of Georgia doggedly pursued his execution. Jen Marlowe is the author of I Am Troy Davis. And he tells his own story of being challenged to take a stand when he rotated back to the States from Vietnam in 1970.  Jerry Lembcke is Associate Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Holy Cross College, and the author of The Spitting Image: Myth, Memory, and the Legacy of Vietnam and PTSD.  --------------------------------------------------------  "When Two Worlds Collide" We'll hear an interview with thedocumentary filmmakers Heidi Brandenburg and Mathew Orzel of  When Two Worlds Collide.  In this tense and immersive tour de force, audiences are taken directly into the line of fire between powerful, opposing Peruvian leaders who will stop at nothing to keep their respective goals intact. On the one side is President Alan Garcia, who, eager to enter the world stage, begins aggressively extracting oil, minerals, and gas from untouched indigenous Amazonian land. He is quickly met with fierce opposition from indigenous leader Alberto Pizango, whose impassioned speeches against Garcia's destructive actions prove a powerful rallying cry to throngs of his supporters. When Garcia continues to ignore their pleas, a tense war of words erupts into deadly violence.  The film is opening at the Laemmle Monica Film Center September 16.  --------------------------------------------------------  New York City Council Condemns BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Movement against Israel September 14, the New York City Council, voted 40 - 4 to condemn the BDS Movement after a session during which council members strained to convert constitutionally protected BDS speech and activity into per se anti-Semitism, while police expelled pro-BDS people from the audience.  Stanley Cohen, who joins us to talk about the decision, called it, "A perverse leap of faith similar to the sinister shroud of supremacy worn by the Reichstag supporters of the 30's at a time when today's Palestinians were yesteryear's Jews."  Stanley Cohen is an attorney and human rights advocate. Among the others he has represented are hackers, Occupy activists, the homeless, anti-war protesters, Muslim clerics, American Indian activists, supporters of Peru's Shining Path guerrillas, Black Bloc anarchists, and Anonymous in the PayPal 14 case. He was recently targeted by the US government and sent to prison for 18 months for tax law violations.

"Birth of a Nation" and the Attacks on Nate Parker Sunsara Taylor recently wrote, "On the eve of the major release of a new film, 'The Birth of a Nation,' which chronicles the heroic slave rebellion of Nat Turner, a huge controversy has broken out over 17-year-old allegations of sexual assault directed against the film's writer, director and star, Nate Parker." Despite the fact that Nate Parker was tried and found not guiltyyears ago, he's suddenly being attacked. What's up with this? Sunsara Taylor will join us to talk about this. She is a writer for  revcom.us and the key initiator of End Pornography and Patriarchy: The Enslavement and Degradation of Women. ****************************** Sit with Colin! Carl Dix wrote at revcom.us: "National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick called it right when he refused to stand up for the national anthem, saying: 'I am not going to stand up to show pride in the flag of a country that oppresses Black people and people of color.'" Carl Dix is a courageous freedom fighter from the 1960s who went on to become a revolutionary fighter and a communist. Dix spent two years in military prison for refusing to fight in the unjust Vietnam War.  He's a founding member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, and a co-founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network.  ******************************************* Marshall Crenshaw Guitarist and singer-songwriter Marshall Crenshaw joins us. His musical career began in the early 1980s, when he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly. But as someone said, "he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself." As a songwriter, he has written scores of compositions. He is also a talented performer. Last week on the show, fellow guitarist Wayne Kramer noted, "People think of Marshall as a great singer and songwriter, but he's a wicked guitar player. Jail Guitar Doors In 2009, Wayne Kramer partnered with fellow musician Billy Bragg to found Jail Guitar Doors in the US. Its mission is to provide musical instruments and instruction to prisoners. Wayne Kramer and others will be performing in Rock Out! 3, a benefit concert at the Ford Theatre on September 9.  ****************************** Public Theatre in New York Cancels Production  of Palestinian Play Earlier this year, The Public Theatre in New York slammed the door on Palestinian artists. Without explanation, they backed out of an agreement with the Freedom Theatre of Jenin to be a partner in stagingThe Siege. The US Friends of The Jenin Freedom Theatre say they are still determined to bring the play to the US in the next year. There is a history of censorship of works of art that tell the story of the Palestinian people, or expose the towering crimes against humanity of the Israeli Zionist regime. In 2006, a performance of My Name Is Rachel Corrie, directed by the late Alan Rickman, was cancelled by the New York Theatre Workshop. We'll hear from Felice Gelman, from The US Friends of The Jenin Freedom Theatre.   ******************************************* Attacks on Pro-Palestinian Movement on Campuses We'll also speak with Robert Gardner, a UCLA student and member of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). Earlier this year, he found that posters had been put up around campus that called him and 15 other students "Jew haters" and "terrorist allies." This is part of a major new campaign funded by billionaire Sheldon Adelson to oppose the growing movement on campuses to support the Palestinian people.

Drop the charges on Joey Johnson  and the RNC16 now! On July 20, outside the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Joey Johnson was surrounded by a circle of members of the Revolution Club, who created a safe space for him to burn the American flag. Joey led chants, "1, 2, 3, 4 -- Slavery, Genocide, and War! 5, 6, 7, 8 -- America Was NEVER Great!" The flag went up in flames. This warmed the hearts of people all over the world: a powerful statement that American lives are NOT more important than other people's lives. The system hit back immediately, trying to send the message that this will not be tolerated. As the flag started to burn, police attacked, arresting Joey and 16 others, the RNC 16. They were given serious charges - and the authorities have piled on even more charges, including charging two of the protestors with felonies. We'll hear the latest on all this from Joey Johnson, whose Supreme Court case Texas vs Johnson established flag burning as protected speech. Joey Johnson is a supporter of the Revolutionary Communist Party.
