Protest U.S. Government Retaliation Against "No More Deaths"

Protest U.S. Government Retaliation Against "No More Deaths"
Monday, January 29th, 3:45 - 6 PM
No Human Being Is Illegal! This Protest/Speak Out/Street Theatre is in response to the federal government’s retaliation against No More Deaths border activists and the recent multi-pronged attacks on immigrants nationwide by the Trump/Pence Regime.

The No More Deaths humanitarian aid group, based in Tucson AZ, recently released videos that show U.S. Border Patrol agents kicking and pouring out water bottles left in the desert for migrant border crossers. These heartless actions by the U.S. Border Patrol are deliberate efforts to cause unbearable suffering and even death of people trying to cross the border. Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Border Patrol, is carrying out stepped up terror of immigrants at the border, hiring thousands of new agents with plans to build the border wall. Over 7,000 people have lost their lives trying to cross the border over the past two decades - a largely unknown catastrophe - and the number may be significantly higher.

The footage of U.S. Border Patrol agents kicking and pouring out water bottles left in the desert for border crossers was posted last week, at the same time No More Deaths and La Coalición de Derechos Humanos released a report documenting abuses by the U.S. Border Patrol. Then, hours later, a volunteer from that group was arrested by federal authorities in obvious retaliation for this exposure! He faces up to five years in prison for allegedly harboring two people suspected of being in the country without authorization, after he gave them food and water. Altogether, nine members of the No More Deaths have been charged with federal crimes and misdemeanors in recent months. No More Deaths have been leaving water out in the desert west of Tucson for many years at a place called "The Devil's Highway" where so many border crossers have died of thirst and exposure. Their humanitarian work should be celebrated and defended by all people of conscience. Instead, they are under attack by the Trump/Pence regime, and make no mistake, these arrests are meant to threaten anyone who would stand with immigrants, and give them life-saving assistance and shelter.

The U.S. Border Patrol’s cruel actions, and the targeting of these activists by federal authorities, represents the Trump/Pence regime’s unconscionable policy of death and disappearance in the desert at the U.S. Mexico border. It is also part of a multi-pronged assault on immigrants nationwide which includes attacks on Haitian, Salvadoran and Nicaraguan TPS holders, rescinding DACA for 800,00 Dreamers, nationwide 7/Eleven ICE raids, and more. These outrages are at the core of their ethnic cleansing plan to consolidate a fascist government in the U.S. This must not be allowed to happen and standing with our immigrant brothers and sisters, and those who support them, are critical to stopping and driving out this regime. The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!

Initiated by Refuse Fascism. Organizations and individuals encouraged to co-sponser and reach out to their support networks. Bring noisemakers. Street theatre will be a part of the protest.

Student Task Force Social

Thursday, Feb. 1st, 6:30 - 9 PM

2716 S. Vermont Ave., Ste. 8 (upstairs)
LA 90007

Come hang out this Thursday and engage in an important discussion on how to strengthen the role of students in this critical moment we're in and to figure out the ways we can work together on the campuses and beyond to drive this fascist regime from power. Bring your friends, questions, and creativity.
From the National Student Task Force of RefuseFascism.org:

"AS YOU READ THIS they are kidnapping immigrants from their homes and workplaces, and forcing them into the shadows in fear of deportation. They are demonizing and unleashing violence against Muslims and leaving refugees to the mercy of the oceans and the imperialist countries that see them as human waste. They are denying health care, food assistance, and the basic right to live to millions of children, poor people, and elderly people. They are propelling women back into the dark ages with their male supremacist agenda, stripping women of the access to control their bodies, reducing them to sex objects and breeders. They are denouncing the humanity of LGBT people, labeling transgender people as “burdens” to society. They are giving the green light to the police to continue to murder Black and Latino people at an escalating rate, with genocidal implications in their white supremacist agenda. They are bombing the people of the world with chemical weapons and threatening all of civilization with a nuclear holocaust in the name of “America First.” They are putting the whole planet in peril by pouring gasoline all over global warming and gutting all environmental protections. They are trying to eliminate the critical investigation of reality and the scientific method, and it is no exaggeration to say that this could lead to the very extinction of humanity if not through the utter devastation of the planet, then through nuclear war.

As part of forcing society to accept the normalization of these horrific crimes, they are going after the universities to crush the concept of truth, critical thinking, and any form of opposition to their program. They play the victims and falsely uphold the banner of free speech, as if it is intellectually productive to debate the legitimacy of their not-so-subtle white supremacy, patriarchy, xenophobia, etc., as if they don’t have the power of the state to back up their pseudoscience with policy and brute force.

Just look at what is happening in Berkeley. The fascists are targeting Berkeley specifically because it is a beacon of progressivism and radical thought. As the fascist pseudo-intellectuals come spew their hateful poison on the campus, the city and the administration are shamefully collaborating with them by implementing a police-state approach to trample on students’ ability to oppose this. And this must be opposed! We must uphold the legacy of Berkeley by taking up the role that students have played historically in movements of resistance like they did in the 1960s. We must stand with the people of the world and have the audacity to challenge the lies of this regime in the face of repression, to defy the attempts of these fascists to warp reality in their image and confuse people into believing these monsters are the victims.

We hope that by now it is clear that the concept of “apolitical” is but a parasitic illusion. This masked complicity will count for nothing when the impending storm finalizes the destruction of whole sections of people here and around the world. It should also be clear by just looking at the collaborations on the part of the democrats and others that we cannot rely on the channels of this system which put us in this situation in the first place. So this begs the question, what are we going to do in the face of this?

Get organized: the responsibility before all of us is to put an end to this in the only way it can be done – by putting our lives on the line and to mobilize millions throughout society to drive out this fascist regime."

Sunsara Taylor on The Upsurge Against Sexual Harassment And Abuse

A very righteous mass upsurge has broken out around a key fault-line issue of this, and all prior, class societies. This must continue to go further. Sexual harassment and sexual assault is a problem going back millennia, and a problem which is totally pervasive, including on a global scale. At the same time, it is in fact necessary to recognize and overcome some secondary, negative trends which could serve to misdirect and derail this struggle.

We'll talk about all these important questions and more with Sunsara Taylor, writer for RevCom.us/Revolution newspaper, and one of the initiators of Refuse Fascism.
ICE Raids and Resistance - Cinthia Flores, CHIRLA, and Michelle Xai, Refuse Fascism LA

On Wednesday, January 10, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents staged pre-dawn raids on about one hundred 7-Eleven stores in eighteen states and Washington D.C. These were the largest immigration raids launched on workplaces under the Trump/Pence regime. And these fascists promise that this is only the beginning.

In response, activists in Los Angeles have formed a Raids Rapid Response Network, and launched protests at 7-Eleven stores. We'll speak with Cinthia Flores, Legal and Policy Counsel for CHIRLA, The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, and Michelle Xai of Refuse Fascism LA.

SUPPORT AND SPREAD THE FURY AGAINST SEXUAL ABUSE
by Bob Avakian

The phenomenon of sexual harassment and sexual assault—including (but not limited to) the sexual abuse of women by men who hold positions of power over them—is long-standing and widespread throughout this male supremacist society and is reinforced by the putrid culture it has spawned. The outpouring of outrage against this sexual abuse and the all too commonplace institutional cover-ups and complicity with it, and the demand for a radical change in the culture—which has made a major leap in relation to the accusations against Harvey Weinstein and has now spread far beyond that, involving millions of women, in sphere after sphere throughout this country and in other countries as well—is right, righteous, and long overdue, and should be supported, encouraged, spread, and defended against counter-attack.

In the context of such a long-suppressed outpouring of outrage, there are bound to be some negative aspects, including some excesses, where false or exaggerated accusations are made in particular cases; but these have been (and will almost certainly remain) a very secondary aspect of the phenomenon. If and when it may be necessary to point to some of these shortcomings, this must be done very judiciously, in a way that does not undermine the overwhelmingly positive character of this upsurge, and in fact helps to strengthen it.

This long-suppressed and thoroughly just outpouring of outrage is not the same as any particular accusation. Such particular accusations do have to be approached on the basis of scientifically evaluating the evidence, and this is especially important where the accusations not only allege misconduct but actual criminal action, such as rape or other sexual assault. But this distinction, between particular accusations and the overall phenomenon, should not be allowed to obscure or diminish the righteousness and importance of the massive upsurge against this widespread and deeply-rooted abuse and the tremendous injury it does to women and to humanity as a whole.

The Second Half of THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME MUST GO! In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE To Accept a Fascist America, A Better World IS Possible, A Talk by Bob Avakian

We'll hear the second and final part of the talk "THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME MUST GO! In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE To Accept a Fascist America, A Better World IS Possible," by Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party last fall.

Bob Avakian (BA) dissects that the election of Donald Trump signals that we are being confronted and now ruled by a fascist regime. It examines why people voted for Trump and how things came to the point where we are confronting the real horror of a fascist America. Told briefly is the “longer story,” the broader history that has led to this.

See and share the talk here.

And, If You Hate President Shithole, Find Out WHY People DO Come Here from All Over the World

"Why do people come here from all over the world?" a clip from "Revolution: Why It's Necessary, Why It's Possible, What It's All About, a film of a talk by Bob Avakian" given in 2003 in the United States. Bob Avakian is the Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

One year ago, millions clogged the streets of every major city in this country and many small towns in the historic Women's March. Together, we felt our power and showed the world our disgust and anger at the hideous, racist, sexual-predator-in-chief who had just been inaugurated.

We were right to be in the streets – and it is even more needed now.  Join RefuseFascism.org at the Women's Marches this weekend.
In Los Angeles - Meet up at 8 a.m. at 5th & Hill Street
(north west corner in front of Starbucks)
Look for NO! Banners & Signs

Ask yourself: Did you imagine that in one year it would become normal to have an open white supremacist in the White House – a man who calls whole nations and continents filled with Black and Brown people “shitholes”? To have the Muslim Travel Ban in effect? For immigrants everywhere to live in outright terror, afraid to even drive their kids to school or go to court for a parking ticket because they might be snatched and disappeared forever by ICE? For immigrants rights leaders like Ravi Ragbir, Jean Montrevil and others to be targeted and taken into detention, on track to deportation while most of society goes on with business as usual? To have Trump threatening a nuclear holocaust via Twitter?

This must never become normal. It should never be accepted or accommodated to. This nightmare of the Trump/Pence Regime grows worse by the day. They are moving fast to impose fascism on America and only the people with our feet in the streets can stop them!

All this is why it is so important for everyone to come back out into the streets this Saturday on the anniversary of the inauguration of the fascist Trump/Pence Regime and on the anniversary of the historic Women's March. This is why we invite you to march with the RefuseFascism.org contingent as we bring in the following urgent demand and message:

This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!
In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America!

Bring drums, buckets, bright colors, your own signs & NO!signs
Check with local areas for sign-making parties

NYC: January 21, 2017

RefuseFascism.org is a movement of people coming from diverse perspectives, united in our recognition that the Trump/Pence Regime poses a catastrophic danger to humanity and the planet, and that it is our responsibility to drive them from power through non-violent protests that grow every day until our demand is met: This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go! We welcomes individuals and organizations from many different points of view who share our determination to refuse to accept a fascist America, to join and/or partner with us in this great cause.

Trump Ends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Hundreds of Thousands of Immigrants

We'll also talk with Julie Mitchell, Managing Attorney at CARECEN, and Evelyn Hernandez, a TPS holder and organizer. about the Trump regime's latest decision to end Temporary Protected Status, TPS, for Salvadoran immigrants. He had previously ended TPS for immigrants from Haiti, Honduras and Sudan. About 250,000 Salvadoran immigrants have received TPS, which allows them to live and work in the US. This status was created in 2001, under the Bush administration. All may face deportation after decades in the US.

CARECEN defends human and civil rights for Central Americans and all immigrants, works for social and economic justice and promotes cultural diversity.

Refuse Fascism National Organizing Tour

Comes to Los Angeles: January 11-17

Nearly one year after the 2017 presidential inauguration, it is clear that Refuse Fascism's initial analysis was right: the Trump/Pence regime is a fascist regime, and it will destroy millions of lives soon, ultimately humanity and the planet itself, if it is not driven from power. Since the Muslim ban, since Charlottesville, since the threats of "fire and fury" against North Korea, many have woken up to the reality and imminence of this danger.

Nothing short of driving out this regime through mass, sustained political resistance will end this nightmare. While millions of people want Trump and Pence gone, they haven't acted in a commensurate way. Why is this? What has been holding people back from taking to the streets? What is the role of the Democratic leadership in keeping this regime in power? What can we do to break the silence of normalization and give people a way to make real change?

These are some of the questions we'll discuss at a mass meeting to welcome the Refuse Fascism NATIONAL TOUR! Volunteers are travelling to Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York to organize and strengthen Refuse Fascism, and this meeting is your chance to hear a presentation and engage in discussion with national representatives of the organization working to stop Trump and Pence.

If you know in your heart that we have to stop this regime...if you know that it is quickly becoming too late...if you are determined to act in the name of humanity, join us in welcoming the national tour, and invite your friends, family, coworkers, organizations, religious congregations, book clubs, and others. Be part of the solution. At this stage, everyone is needed to make a real breakthrough.

Here's what you can do to support the National Tour RIGHT NOW: Make a donation and spread the word today. Fundraising is needed for all our organizing work, and without funds, we won't win. Received from Refuse Fascism - SoCal:

In the name of humanity we refuse to accept a fascist America

Dear Friends,
Save the Date (and get involved)!  Saturday, January 13, 2018.  The "January Refuse Fascism Tour" will be in Los Angeles. If you know in your heart that we have to stop this regime...if you know that it is quickly becoming too late...if you are determined to act in the name of humanity, join us in welcoming the Refuse Fascism National Tour to LA.
Time and location for the Saturday, January 13th mass meeting will be coming soon.  Please contact Refuse Fascism in Los Angeles to help and to get involved with making this January Refuse Fascism Tour a success. 323.946.1742
Here's what you can do to support the National Tour RIGHT NOW:
Make a donation and spread the word today. Thanks to several generous donors, your contribution before the end of the year will be DOUBLED, up to $20,000! Fundraising is needed for all our organizing work, and without funds, we won't win. Share the link, too!
We would like to thank all those who helped the recent weekend Fundraiser Matching Funds Challenge - everyone who made calls, spread the word, or made a donation. Thanks to these efforts we were able to reach our weekend national goal of $25,000!
Which brings us to this weekend's Matching Funds Challenge!
At a time when the fascist Trump/Pence regime threatens the future of humanity, your donation to Refuse Fascism makes it possible to change history.
Over the next three days, by midnight Sunday, we aim to raise another $25,000 towards the $250,000 goal.  ALL donations will be DOUBLED until we reach $70,000 on the campaign, and we need to get to $75,000 by Monday.
There are many ways you can take part: by making a donation yourself…by reaching out to friends and family to encourage them to give… or, by joining a phone banking team at the Refuse Fascism offices this weekend.  (If you’d like to join the team this weekend, please call us at 323-946-1742.)
Together we have accomplished a lot in the past year - but the Trump/Pence Regime’s existential danger to humanity continues to grow.  RefuseFascism.org is not stopping, and we need your support now.
RefuseFascism.org has stood as the one national organization that has consistently identified this regime as fascist and recognized that the people must take it upon themselves to drive this regime from power.  We cannot wait for some politician or leave it to the very courts that Trump is both undermining and packing with fascist judges.
Instead, we have been mobilizing the people to go into the streets with a single unifying demand:  This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!  We are working towards the time when thousands will grow to millions, coming back day after day - in massive, sustained, and nonviolent political protest until this demand is met.
Yet, most people who will be part of this movement do not yet know about RefuseFascism.org.  With your help, we can change this!

Three Key Points on the Imperialist—and Fascist—Logic of the Trump Tax Bill, with Raymond Lotta

We'll speak with Raymond Lotta, who recently wrote, "The new tax law is NOT principally a handout, motivated by corporate greed—although greedy hands are seeking to maximize and game its benefits, which are utterly skewed to the wealthy. This tax bill is a conscious and strategic move to deal with economic contradictions and imperialist great-power needs." Raymond Lotta is a revolutionary intellectual and an advocate for Bob Avakian’s new synthesis of communism.  Read his article "Three Key Points on the Imperialist—and Fascist—Logic of the Trump Tax Bill" at revcom.us HERE.

Palestinian Professor Saree Makdisi: Trump and Jerusalem

Saree Makdisi, Palestinian Professor at UC Los Angeles, on Trump's decision to move
