LAPD Spying and Disinformation Targets Refuse Fascism; The National Revolution Tour Hits Chicago; Support The Michael Slate Show

LAPD Chief Moore spreading disinformation, lies and slander to justify unconstitutional police spying

Last week, the LA TimesGuardian and other mainstream media outlets reported about the LAPD's suppression and surveillance of members of Refuse Fascism and the Revolution Club in the cases of the #Freeway9 and #UCLA5. At a meeting of the Los Angeles Police Commission, LAPD Chief Moore said that there were “allegations of people who identified with political action groups but were also identified as being involved with criminal acts including arson, vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon and those types of criminal acts…” These are dangerous lies.

This week:

Support the Freeway 9 and Refuse Fascism; #Freeway9 Lawyer Damon Alimouri; Playwright Geraldine Inoa, Scraps

Chantelle and Coco Das on The #Freeway 9 and a Special Evening of Conscience and Culture:

On June 28th, a mistrial was declared in the case against two Refuse Fascism and Revolution Club members who were part of two separate groups that shut down the 101 freeway in Los Angeles with a 50-foot banner demanding the Trump/Pence regime must go in late 2017. The very next court day, the City Attorney doubled down and announced that they would re-try the defendants, even though a large majority of the jurors refused to convict, .

We'll speak with Chantelle, one of the Freeway 9, and Coco Das, a contributing editor to RefuseFascism.org, about the significance of the attacks on Refuse Fascism, and the importance of an upcoming Evening of Conscience and Culture. (See below)

Attorney Damon Alimouri, Lawyer for One of the Freeway 9
We'll also hear an interview with Damon Alimouri, the lawyer for one of the Freeway 9 on the case, and why he got involved.

Geraldine Inoa, Scraps

The New York Times wrote about Scraps, "Geraldine Inoa’s bracing and intense new play “Scraps” is about lives cut short by police violence, and the cataclysmic harm those killings do to the people left behind. But it’s also about the asphyxiating constriction of living while black in a society whose notions of acceptable behavior hinge on race: a narrow set of rules for black people, a far more forgiving one for whites." We'll sit down with Geraldine Inoa

An Evening of Conscience

It's right to sound the alarm against fascism!

Sunday, July 21, 5-7pm
Immanuel Presbyterian Church
3300 Wilshire Blvd, (Wilshire and Berendo), LA 90010

Participants so far include: Cecil L. “Chip” MurrayStephen Rohde, Chair of Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and retired civil rights lawyer; Rev. Frank Wulf, Pastor in Charge, Echo Park United Methodist Church; Isabel Cardenas, Salvadoran-American Community Activist and co-initiator, Refuse Fascism; Reg E. Gaines, poet and playwright.

When your government is being run by an OPEN white supremacist, torturing immigrants in concentration camps, gutting the rule of law, taking away the right to abortion... consolidating a fascist America... Should you do nothing? Or should you stop business as usual? The #Freeway9 and #UCLA5 are facing criminal charges for blocking the 101 Freeway in the Fall of 2017 and for disrupting the fascist Steve Mnuchin at UCLA in the Spring of 2018. These actions – for which the defendants are facing years in jail and several thousand dollars in fines – were aimed at sounding the alarm against the Trump/Pence Fascist regime, responding to a call from Refuse Fascism for a movement of millions to drive this regime from power through mass, sustained, nonviolent protest in the streets.

This is the only way to stop this nightmare.

It’s not enough to hate what's happening: choose what side you're on, or history will choose for you. Join us for an evening of conscience, illuminating the stakes of these cases, the dangerous precedents being set, why these heroes should be defended and what it means to act commensurate with the dangers to humanity posed by the Trump/Pence fascist regime.

This week:

You want to know the truth about the LAPD? Don't miss this conversation with Max Felker-Kantor, the author of an indispensable new exposure, Policing Los Angeles: Race, Resistance, and the Rise of the LAPD

This book tells the story of the Los Angeles Police Department, from the Watts Rebellion of 1965, to the 1992 Spring Rebellion. When the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts erupted in violent protest in August 1965, the uprising drew strength from decades of pent-up frustration with employment discrimination, residential segregation, and poverty. But the more immediate grievance was anger at the racist and abusive practices of the Los Angeles Police Department. Yet in the decades after Watts, the LAPD resisted all but the most limited demands for reform made by activists and residents of color, instead intensifying its power.
Dr. Max Felker-Kantor is an American historian who specializes in twentieth century American and African American history with a focus on race, politics, and social movements. He is particularly interested in the policies and institutions of urban law enforcement and criminal justice systems since World War II. He received his PhD from the University of Southern California in 2014. He currently teaches American and African American history at Ball State University.

Don't let them criminalize protesting fascism, be there Wednesday, 7pm

From RefuseFascism - SoCal:
Be part of the Defense Committee for the #Freeway9 and #UCLA5

- How is the LA City Attorney and LAPD criminalizing protest against the Trump/Pence fascist regime that steps outside the confines of meaningless protest-as-usual?
- How are they surveilling and suppressing political protest?
- How can you be part of stopping it?

Come to a meeting Wednesday, July 10, 7pm
Trinity Episcopal Church

650 N. Berendo Street
Los Angeles, CA 90004
Call Refuse Fascism at 323.946.1742 for more info.

_________

On June 28th, a mistrial was declared in the case against two members of Refuse Fascism and the Revolution Club who are part of the #Freeway9 defendants.
In the fall of 2017, these defendants stepped unto the 101 freeway in Downtown L.A during morning rush hour with a 50ft banner that read "Trump/Pence Regime Must Go" sounding the alarm of fascism and calling on millions to act commensurate to the situation facing humanity.  As we witness concentration camps openly torturing immigrants, we can see clearly how right heroes were.

During the trial the jury was able to hear from the defendants themselves on what compelled them to get into the freeway.  Several people on the jury refused to convict, so the judge declared it a mistrial. The prosecution immediately said they were going to reset the case and won a retrial. The trial is set to begin July 22nd at the Metropolitan Courthouse.

But the jury was prevented from hearing about all the ways the LAPD criminalized and surveilled Refuse Fascism, including by sending a spy into meetings at a church to record the meeting and private conversations.

On Wednesday July 10th, be part of a Defense Committee meeting to spread the word about these cases, raise funds and go on the offensive with the simple fact: protesting fascism is not a crime, it is necessary and right.

These defendants are facing up to 3 years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines, if found guilty for attempting to wake up millions to the extreme danger we are facing with this regime.  This case is about what it means to act commensurate with the rapid-moving consolidation of fascism.  The Democratic Party politicians that run LA, including the City Attorney Mike Feuer are working overtime to criminalize dissent and protest that steps outside of the normal confines of meaningless politics-as-usual.

Anyone who is concerned about the danger to humanity posed by what this regime is doing, anyone who is agonized about what this regime is doing to immigrants, LGBTQ people, women, the environment and what they are threatening to the people of the world -- needs to be part of demanding these charges be dropped, and needs to help this case become known throughout society.

These defendants are heroes and must be supported, as an overall political fight to drive the Trump/Pence fascist regime from power.

LIVESTREAM SUNDAY: Why We Burned The Flag...

From The National Revolution Tour and the Revolution Club:
If you were inspired by the American flag on fire in front of the White House on #July4th, and want to know who ARE the revolutionary communists who did this, tune in  LIVESTREAM Sunday July 7, 1 PM PDT:
Live from Revolution Books-NYC

FaceBook Live  ~  @tuneintorevcom

WHY WE BURNED THE FLAG; WHAT THIS REVOLUTION IS ALL ABOUT— AND HOW YOU CAN BE A PART OF IT
.
IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT AMERICA
July 4th—Notorious Flag Burner Joey Johnson Attacked and Arrested

IN THE FACE OF MEIN TRUMPF’S MILITARIST ORGY THE BURNING FLAGS LIGHT UP A DIFFERENT FUTURE

July 4 was a tale of three futures. One was Donald Trump—not only braying about the so-called greatness of America, but fetishizing the military hardware and troops of this empire that daily kills people all over this planet and calling on people to sign up for the slaughter. A second was the Democrats—with no answer to the fascist militarism of Trump other than petty carping from a shared framework of support for empire. And the third was seen in the flames of the burning American flags in full view of the White House, under the slogan “Imagine a World Without America.” Read more.

This action was carried out by a determined, creative and disciplined force for revolution— THE MIGHTY MIGHTY REVCOMS— who put before millions of people THAT THERE IS A WAY OUT OF THIS MADNESS. The action was organized around a quote from Bob Avakian, who has developed a new communism that forges a road for the emancipation of humanity and who leads the revolution in the US. Avakian has said:

"If you can conceive of a world without America—without everything America stands for and everything it does in the world—then you’ve already taken great strides and begun to get at least a glimpse of a whole new world. If you can envision a world without any imperialism, exploitation, oppression—and the whole philosophy that rationalizes it—a world without division into classes or even different nations, and all the narrow-minded, selfish, outmoded ideas that uphold this; if you can envision all this, then you have the basis for proletarian internationalism. And once you have raised your sights to all this, how could you not feel compelled to take an active part in the world historic struggle to realize it; why would you want to lower your sights to anything less?"
If you were provoked, challenged and inspired by this...

If you felt your blood rush and your heart sing when you saw that rag lit up right in front of the White House and right at the US-Mexico border with the REVCOMS chanting America Was Never, Great, Imagine A World Without America...

If you want to know who those people are — those revcoms who did this...

Then there is a need and a place in the revolution for you.
