Saturday @ Trump Star in Hollywood - Drive Out the Trump/Pence Regime!

Received from Refuse Fascism - SoCal

To all who recognize the danger of the Trump/Pence Regime:

Last week, after learning that Trump had fired James Comey as Director of the FBI, Refuse Fascism issued a statement (updated on May 15) where we identified this as a "pivotal moment." Pivotal in the further consolidation of fascism by the Trump/Pence Regime - signaling to the world that this regime will disregard the rule of law as freely as they disregard the truth and that they will roll over any one not loyal to Trump and his regime.
We also said that this was pivotal for the people posing the question:
Will we do everything now to lead masses of people who are alarmed and outraged to act with determination to take to the streets to demand that this regime be ousted from power?
Our statement puts before all that:
"What matters right now is what masses of people do: acting together with determination and creativity, expressing outrage and anger, taking to the streets with the spirit of no business as usual and demanding that this regime be driven from power. In dealing with the extraordinary, we must rid ourselves of ordinary thinking. The RefuseFascism Call to Action needs to get before hundreds of thousands of people now. The RefuseFascism "NO!" already seen and photographed in protests around the country needs now to be everywhere - including everywhere right up in the face of the fascists and those Democrats who accommodate the regime.

We united with the spirit of a person who joined our protest and shouted out that people should be out against Trump: "every day until he's gone." This stand is still on the mark. Even as this need not mean that everyday Refuse Fascism should continue to call and hold the same protest. Everyday, we need to be finding the ways to organize and unite with more and more people, everyday spreading the RefuseFascism Call to Action in the tens and hundreds of thousands, on line and on paper. Every day planning creative actions that happen with more and more frequency so that soon they are everyday and everywhere with growing numbers and power leading up to the time when, as The Call to Action says:
"when millions of people can be moved to fill the streets of cities and towns day after day and night after night, declaring this whole regime illegitimate - Demanding, and Not Stopping, Until the Trump/Pence Regime Is Driven from Power."
We recommend that everyone learn from the spirit and experience of ActUp as put forth in an article on Huffington Post by Michelangelo Signorile where he writes: "I'm calling for what ACT UP, the life-saving AIDS activist group with which I was involved, did in the '80s and '90s when our lives were at stake, when our people were dying all around us, and when the government allowed the deaths because it believed nobody cared about dying and dead queers. You don't need a large crowd, but you do need an idea that grips people, puts the target on notice, displays passion, makes a spectacle, and says, 'No more business as usual.'"
With orientation, we are proposing the following:
[1] Spread the RefuseFascism Call to Action (as well as the NO! Signs and banners) to every outbreak of resistance, and to every gathering where people are discussing what to do to stop the horrors of the Trump/Pence Regime.

[2] Get together in RefuseFascism chapters or with friends and colleagues and plan a creative action that disturbs the air, rouses the people, and puts the regime and all who are accommodating and conciliating with it on notice that we are going to fight to stop this fascist regime and drive it out.

[3] NO! Days: Pick one day a week where everyone RefuseFascism has been in contact with goes out everywhere - on public transport, at bus stops, campuses, hospitals, workplaces, and display the NO! - in big ways, and with masses of people wearing the NO! These NO! Days can become days when people start to gather and march together growing in strength.

[4] Anytime there are Congressional town halls - RefuseFascism needs to be there sharply calling out those who support the regime, and/or those who abet it with hand-wringing and go slow plans to let the normal workings of the system take their course - which will be too damn late!

[5] Unite with other organizations to plan larger and larger protests. For one example, go out to religious, community and political groups who have been active against mass incarceration, the war on drugs, and police brutality and propose taking action against The Trump/Pence Regime's attorney general Jeff Session's call for enforcing maximum prison sentences and propose protests under the broad slogan of Trump and Pence Must Go.

[6] Make plans to be at college commencements. Recruit students to spend their summer working with RefuseFascism! Summer RF Tours are being planned.

[7] Raise funds. Raise funds. Raise funds. Hold a fund-raising party and watch the National Teach-In video and the Battle for Berkeley video. Driving out a regime will take huge sums of money. Everyone can be a part of the fight to save humanity and the planet by contributing to driving out the Trump/Pence Fascist Regime.  To donate to Refuse Fascism LA for local materials and expenses go to: http://tinyurl.com/donate2rfla

An Urgent Appeal from Michael Slate:
Dear Sisters and Brothers, Friends and Supporters,
I write to you today with an urgent appeal.  This Friday The Michael Slate Show will air at its normal time. The station is in the middle of a fund drive and we will be raising money to support KPFK so that it can continue to carry out the mission of the station in these very dangerous times. However, we have been given a monetary goal that we are required to reach if we are to continue to present the show during the remainder of the fund drive. We need to raise between $2000 and $3000 this Friday if we are going to continue to be on the air for the remainder of the fund drive - however long that may end up being.
This is a terrible dilemma. The times demand that we continue to bring you the kind of shows that you have come to expect from us - the kinds of shows that need to be aired these days on KPFK and many other outlets across the country. Our show is known for the voices and perspectives we bring to you each week. When you tune in to our show you know that you are not going to be hearing an endless remix of Democratic Party Lite. We are committed to airing the voices who can help us understand the world we live in, the crimes of this system, the ideas, art and voices committed to fighting for a better, fundamentally different, liberating world. Yes, we bring you the voices that are so often suppressed in every dimension of human life in this society. The voices and people we need to hear. And most importantly, we bring you the people, ideas and movements committed to getting rid of the hellish conditions billions of people live, suffer and die under all over the world.
There is no show like The Michael Slate Show anywhere else in this country. And as we've learned over the last period of time with the Trump/Pence regime quickly working to consolidate their monstrous Nazi rule, we - and people everywhere - need this show more than ever.
Andy Zee, one of the Initiators of RefuseFascism and a Spokesperson for Revolution Books in New York City, said this recently:
  • "I want to recommend to all of your listeners, how important your show is. It's very, very rare. There's nothing even like it in New York, a show where people can get a tremendous breadth of cultural programming, political programming, from a wide range of people. And at the same time, at the heart of the show is revolution, a new synthesis, a new method for understanding the world and an actual revolution. There are very few places, if any places with the reach of your show, that people can hear all that. It's unique and people should support you and support the show and understand what they've got."
As an example, this Friday we will open the show with Carl Dix speaking about the scene in Chicago. Carl recently wrote, "Black People Killing Each Other in Chicago, Carl Dix Says: Get Out of This Insanity and Get Into the Revolution."
We will also play excerpts from a recent interview I did with Neil deGrasse Tyson on his new book, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry. We will be offering the book as a thank-you gift as well and every penny of your donation for this book will go directly to The Michael Slate Show, thanks to the generosity of W.W. Norton publishers.
It is in your hands, sisters and brothers. We are committed to continuing to be here and to carry out the mission of the show as long as we can. But again, you, our listeners, have something to say about how long that is. Think of what it would mean if the voice of The Michael Slate Show was silenced over these next few weeks because we were not able to raise the money we have been assigned to raise during this fund drive. Sisters and brothers, we cannot allow this to happen.
Contribute to the KPFK fund drive as generously as you can. Contribute based on your support for our show and our commitment to make the contributions of this show even more important going into the future.
Make a contribution to the show Friday between 10-11 AM PacificTime. Call818.985.5735 and donate to keep this show on the air. You can also go online at KPFK.org. Use this link to go to the Michael Slate pledge cart.

Best,
Michael

Carl Dix on Chicago - Black People Killing Each Other While the Fascist Trump Prepares to Bring Down the Hammer

Carl Dix recently wrote, "Get Out of This Insanity and Get Into the Revolution"

"In South Shore twelve hours, seven people shot to death within four blocks of each other. Chicago goddamn! This is fucking crazy. Stop doing what the enemy wants you to do! This system that has created the conditions and the values that have our people destroying each other. Trump is planning to bring down the hammer on Black people in a way far worse than you can imagine. You are helping that happen."
But Carl Dix will also talk about the work being done by the Revolution Club and other revolutionaries since this April to turn all this around. He'll be speaking in Chicago this Saturday, May 20. Carl Dix is a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, an Interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson

Michael Slate recently interviewed Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist, author and director of the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium, about his latest book, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.

The book addresses: What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? Neil deGrasse Tyson goes from the Big Bang to black holes, from quarks to quantum mechanics, and from the search for planets to the search for life in the universe.

This Week:
Richard Falk on Israel as an Apartheid State -- and How He Was Attacked for Saying It

In March, a report co-authored by Richard Falk, along with Virginia Tilley, a political scientist at the University of Southern Illinois, was released by the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA). It examined whether Israel's forms of control exercised over the Palestinian people amounted to the international crime of apartheid. It found that Israeli rule was designed to dominate and oppress Palestinians in order to preserve Israel as a Jewish state. The report was denounced by Israeli officials and US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley. The UN secretary-general, Antonio Gutteres, demanded that it be removed from UN websites. Richard Falk endured personal attacks, and two of his speaking engagements in the UK were cancelled.
We'll talk about the report, Richard Falk's experiences, and the threat to academic freedom and free expression posed by Israel and its Zionist supporters. Richard Falk is an international law and international relations scholar and former United Nations Special Rapporteur on "the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967."

Sunsara Taylor on the Battle for Berkeley: Why it's Right, and Righteous, to Drive Fascists Off Campus, Out of Berkeley... and Out of Power!

Fascists are targeting Berkeley! A series of "intellectual" hitmen for the Trump/Pence regime-Ann Coulter, Milo Yiannopoulos, David Horowitz-have zeroed in on UC Berkeley. Twice in April, hundreds of ready-to-brawl "alt right" white supremacists, neo-Nazis, bikers and militia descended on downtown Berkeley.

Sunsara Taylor, writer for revcom.us/ Revolution, and co-initiator ofRefuseFascism.org, will join us to talk about why the fascists must be driven out and why this is not a question of free speech. And she'll talk about the challenge she has issued to "Robert Reich, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders-or anyone else who wants to join them in defending the 'right' of these fascists to spew their bile and fight for their genocidal program."

Mohammad Sabaaneh,
White and Black: Political Cartoons from Palestine

Mohammad Sabaaneh, a Palestinian graphic artist living in Ramallah in the West Bank, has published his work in newspapers around the Arab World. He is currently on tour in the US, taking about his book, White and Black, political Cartoons from Palestine. The collection has been called, "An eloquent work on the ravages of settler colonialism. Every line in this collection achingly cries 'Palestine, Palestine!' This book is a must for all who care about peace and justice." It is published by Just World Books
