This Week:

This week:
--Dr. Aziz Huq, The Travel Ban and Some of the Worst Decisions in History
--Karen J. Greenberg, Trump's Children's Guantanamo
--Bob Avakian on Frederick Douglass and the 4th of July
--Arthur Miller's The Crucible

The Travel Ban and the Supreme Court: The logic they used to uphold the travel ban would justify Japanese internment camps.

Dr. Aziz Huq joins us to talk about the US Supreme Court decision to uphold Trump's anti-Muslim travel ban. He notes the echoes of past unjust decisions, like the approval of concentration camps for Japanese Americans, and the infamous Plessy v. Fergusondecision that legalized generations of Jim Crow segregation. Aziz Huq is the Frank and Bernice J. Greenberg professor of law at the University of Chicago Law School.

How the Torture Camp of Guantanamo Set the Stage for the Children's Camps Being Built at the Border
Karen J. Greenberg recently wrote "Trump’s Border: Gitmo for Kids," about the incarceration of immigrant children in prison camps on US military bases. She talked about comparisons to Nazi Germany, and noted, "If you wanted to see where their ravaging really began, you needed to look elsewhere (which, surprisingly enough, no one has)—specifically, to those who created the Guantánamo Bay Detention Facility." Karen J. Greenberg is director of the Center on National Security at Fordham Law School.

"What to the slave is your fourth of July? From the past to the present."

We'll hear Bob Avakian in a clip from "Revolution: Why It's Necessary, Why It's Possible, What It's All About," a film of a talk by Bob Avakian given in 2003 in the United States. Bob Avakian is the Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party and the architect of a whole new framework of human emancipation, the new synthesis of communism, which is popularly referred to as the "new communism."

Arthur Miller's The Crucible, a Powerful Play for the Era of Trump

We'll sit down with actors Christopher W. Jones and Melora Marshall, who are appearing in The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller, at the Theatricum BotanicumThe Crucible draws a parallel between the Salem witch hunts of 1692 and McCarthyism -- and it is just as relevant today. It shows a world where people are hounded by a mob of accusers, and executed by the authorities, while too few stood up against them.

Demonstrate Saturday July 7

Take to the streets in cities and towns nationwide

TO  DEMAND:

This Nightmare Must End:

The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!

Children torn from parents… concentration camps for tens or hundreds of thousands… threats to bypass judicial process… The assault on immigrants is the linchpin and battering ram of a whole fascist program:
* The Muslim Ban. * White supremacy and terror. * Environmental deregulation as the planet burns. * Open misogyny and theocratic restrictions on abortion and even birth control. * Stripping away rights recently won by LGTBQ people. * 8 million on the verge of starvation in Yemen due to U.S. backed war. * Threats of nuclear annihilation.
This is an American Fascism: “Trump/Pence regime’s ‘Make America Great Again’ is a 21st century fascist program of Manifest Destiny – ‘America First’ – wrapped in the flag and Mike Pence’s Bible taken literally, with a program of white supremacy, misogyny, and xenophobia.”
ENOUGH. Basta Ya!

This time they singled out revolutionaries in a march against caging & terrorizing immigrant families.

This time people stepped forward & pigs were forced to back off!
While awaiting the necessary conditions to go all-out for revolution, we need to hasten this and actively carry out the “3 Prepares”: Prepare the Ground, Prepare the People, and Prepare the Vanguard—Get Ready for the Time When Millions Can Be Led to Go for Revolution, All-Out, With a Real Chance to Win. We need to Fight the Power, and Transform the People, for Revolution—protest and resist the injustices and atrocities of this system, and win people to defy and repudiate this putrid system and its ways of thinking, and to take up the outlook and values, and the strategy and program of the revolution, build up the forces for this revolution, and defeat the attempts of the ruling powers to crush the revolution and its leadership. With every “jolt” in society—every crisis, every new outrage, where many people question and resist what they normally accept—we need to seize on this to advance the revolution and expand its organized forces. We need to oppose and disrupt the moves of the ruling powers to isolate, “encircle,” brutalize, mass incarcerate and murderously repress the people who have the hardest life under this system and who most need this revolution. We need to “encircle” them—by bringing forth wave upon wave of people rising up in determined opposition to this system.

Trump’s Promise Is Worse Than Worthless

Step Up the Struggle Against This Fascist Immigration Policy

June 21, 2018 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order that he claimed would solve the problem of the heartless separation of immigrant children who were arrested for the “crime” of fleeing murder and starvation. Early online coverage in places like the New York Times immediately began claiming that “Trump has caved,” and basically signaled that the struggle had been won.
Trump has NOT caved, and the struggle is far from over. All this order does is say that “the policy of this Administration to maintain family unity, including by detaining alien families together where appropriate and consistent with law and available resources.” This is barely a concession at all—that from here on out, the Administration will try to unjustly imprison families together rather than apart (though that depends on “available resources”).

This week:

- Shireen Al-Adeimi, US-Backed Attack on Yemen Threatens Mass Starvation;
- Bob Avakian, A Radically Different and Far Better World Is Possible

U.S.-Backed Coalition Using Starvation as a Weapon in Yemen

Many people in the US are unaware of the crisis in Yemen which is reaching genocidal proportions. We'll speak with writer and activist Shireen Al-Adeimi about the US-backed attack on Yemen’s port city of Hudayda, and its deadly consequences for the people of Yemen, who are already suffering disease and starvation from years of US-Saudi attacks. For the last three years the U.S. and its allies have bombed, starved, and sickened millions of children, forcing tens of thousands of parents to watch them die before their eyes. Now these criminals are deliberately cutting off the meager food aid in Yemen that has been keeping millions of hungry, sick, and malnourished children—and millions of adults—alive.

Shireen Al-Adeimi is a Yemeni student who just completed her doctorate at Harvard University and has been writing and speaking about the situation in Yemen.
Bob Avakian, A Radically Different and Far Better World Is Possible

At a time when many people are agonizing about, and protesting the inhumanity and brutality of the Trump/Pence fascist regime, we're going to hear part of a talk by Bob Avakian, speaking of why the world is the way it is, and of the kind of world that humanity can actually achieve. We'll hear an excerpt from "BA Speaks: Revolution - Nothing Less!" a film from a series of talks Bob Avakian gave in the Fall of 2012. This excerpt includes, A Radically Different and Far Better World Is Possible, We Need Revolution to Overcome all Oppressive Divisions, We Need a Real Revolution, Not Better Democracy Under This System, Socialism is Three Things, and Above all, Socialism Is a Transition to Communism. Bob Avakian is the Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party and the architect of a whole new framework of human emancipation, the new synthesis of communism, which is popularly referred to as the "new communism."
