THIS WEEK:  Hands Off Refuse Fascism & The Revolution Club; Defeating Kavanaugh -- On the Right Terms! + "Bisbee '17"

Drop the Charges Against Revolutionaries and Refuse Fascism Activists in Los Angeles!

Los Angeles members of Refuse Fascism and the Revolution Club are facing serious charges for resisting the Trump/Pence fascist regime. Eleven people are now facing trial for blocking the 101 Freeway last November, and for speaking from the audience at a UCLA appearance of the fascist cabinet member Steve Mnuchin. We'll talk with some of the defendants about the important of their actions, the nature of the charges, and why people need to defend revolutionaries and anti-fascist resisters.

For more background, read new article HERE.

Sunsara Taylor: Defeating the Supreme Court Nomination of Brett Kavanaugh -- On the Right Terms

We'll speak with Sunsara Taylor, writer for Revcom.us/Revolution newsaper, and co-initiator of Refuse Fascism, on why the struggle to prevent Kavanaugh from being seated must not only continue but intensify, with the correct focus—on his thoroughly fascist history and what that portends for the future of humanity. Kavanaugh has done great harm throughout his life, and if given the chance to ascend to the Supreme Court he will do far far worse. Check out the recent article on revcom.us.

Bisbee '17 -- Disturbing Documentary Screening in Los Angeles
Armed men go house to house rousing people from sleep, dragging them and hundreds of others to cattle cars where they are jammed in to be deported to an unknown destination.

No, this is not Nazi Germany.  This is the United States of America - and this really happened on July 12, 1917 in the border town of Bisbee, Arizona.

One hundred years later, the town commemorates this mind-boggling act on July 12, 2017 - documented by filmmaker Robert Greene. The film BISBEE '17 raises important questions and leaves the viewer even more inquisitive and wanting to find more meaning and answers. We'll be sitting down with Robert Greene to talk about the film and its meaning in these times.

The film will open Friday, September 28 here in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Monica and the Laemmle Pasadena Playhouse.

If you have agonized about the horrors of this society, but did not know why we face all this and thought there was no way out… this speech will reveal why those outrages go on and how they can be changed.

If you have thought that even if people could get together on it, revolution was not really possible up against the powerful repressive machinery we face… this speech will challenge you.

If you have hungered for fundamental change, but did not know where to begin… this speech will give you the map you need and the way to connect.

There has never been a speech like this on this topic before.

This leader, this film, this movement has answers—answers that could lead to a whole better future for humanity… to hope on a solid scientific foundation.

"The Penalty" New Doc on Capital Punishment; Lawsuit Challenges Prison Censorship

Lawsuit Challenges Censorship of Blood in the Water, on Attica Prison Uprising

Two Illinois prisons have censored Blood in the Water, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by historian Heather Ann Thompson about the 1971 Attica prison uprising. The Chicago-based Uptown People’s Law Center filed a lawsuit to challenge this unconstitutional and unethical censorship.

We'll talk with Alan Mills, executive director of Uptown People's Law Center

"The Penalty" and the Stories of Three Extraordinary People Caught up in America's Death Penalty

"The Penalty," a new documentary, takes on the horror of the death penalty through three different perspectives: a woman who must confront the death penalty when her daughter is murdered, a lawyer representing condemned prisoners in Ohio, and a man exonerated and released from death row after decades in solitary confinement. These stories woven together form a powerful statement on the terrible societal impact of state-sponsored murder.

We'll talk with Co-director Will Francome and Producer Laura Shacham.

Sunsara Taylor on The Looming Threat of the Confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Why People Must Stand Up Now to Stop It, and Why We Need a Real Revolution

The Trump/Pence regime has already done shocking damage, from Trump’s Muslim Ban to his open encouragement of murderous white supremacists and Nazis; from his flippant threats of nuclear annihilation to his vile misogyny, threats against the media, and even tearing immigrant children from parents. Now, with the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, the Trump/Pence regime is poised to impose an extreme and long-lasting transformation of the highest court in this country—a major leap in the consolidation of fascism. This must be stopped!

Sunsara Taylor, writer for revcom.us/Revolution Newspaper, and a co-initiator of Refuse Fascism, joins us to talk about the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings: the danger Kavanaugh represents, the determined and righteous protest, inside and outside the hearing room, the role of the Democrats, and the kind of resistance we need.

Water Protectors Resist the Bayou Bridge Pipeline

Jen Marlowe, award-winning author/documentary filmmaker/playwright and human
rights activist, has been reporting on the struggle to stop the Bayou Bridge Pipeline in Louisiana. This is the last segment of the Dakota Access Pipeline, with all its danger to nearby residents, and to life on the planet.

The activists are part of the L'Eau Est La Vie ("Water Is Life") camp, in Rayne, Louisiana. They have faced repression from the pipeline developer, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), from local authorities, and from local authorities "moonlighting" for ETP. They have responded with determination and creativity.
