This week's show:
LA Teachers Ready to Strike as Public Education Is Under Attack

Teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second-largest school district in the US, are ready to go on strike Monday, January 14. They're fighting for the welfare of a generation of students, for better wages and working conditions, and for the future of public education. Over the past year there have been teacher strikes and protests in Arizona, Colorado, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. We'll be talking with Glenn Sacks, a social studies teacher and United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) Co-chair at Monroe High School in Los Angeles.

Carl Dix Remembers Nicholas Heyward, Sr., a Tireless Fighter for Justice

Carl Dix
recently wrote, "With the passing of Nicholas Heyward Sr., everybody who yearns
to see an end to the terror police enforce on Black people, Latino people, and others have lost a determined fighter. And I have lost a good friend." Nicholas Heyward, Sr. became an activist when his son, Nicholas Heyward, Jr., was murdered by a New York City cop. When the cop was exonerated for killing a young Black child, Nicholas Heyward, Sr. refused to accept it, and spent his life fighting not only for justice for his son, but for all victims of murdering, brutal police -- and fighting against the system behind the killer cops. Carl Dix is a representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party.
