In The Other Slavery, The Uncovered Story of Indian Enslavement in America,  Andrés Reséndez tells the little-known story of the enslavement of countless native people in the Americas, including the US. This slavery lasted into the 20th Century, and was particularly brutal in California, where whole peoples were enslaved.

The forced labor of native people helped provide the foundation for the US economy.

We'll hear excerpts from a longer interview with Andrés Reséndez. The whole interview will be available at TheMichaelSlateShow.com after the show.

Drop the charges on Joey Johnson
and the RNC16 now!

On July 20, outside the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Joey Johnson was surrounded by a circle of members of the Revolution Club, who created a safe space for him to burn the American flag. Joey led chants, "1, 2, 3, 4 -- Slavery, Genocide, and War! 5, 6, 7, 8 -- America Was NEVER Great!" The flag went up in flames.

This warmed the hearts of people all over the world: a powerful statement that American lives are NOT more important than other people's lives. The system hit back immediately, trying to send the message that this will not be tolerated.

As the flag started to burn, police attacked, arresting Joey and 16 others, the RNC 16. They were given serious charges - and the authorities have piled on even more charges, including charging two of the protestors with felonies.

We'll hear the latest on all this from Joey Johnson, whose Supreme Court case Texas vs Johnson established flag burning as protected speech. Joey Johnson is a supporter of the Revolutionary Communist Party.

Urgent Appeal to Support Revolution Books - NYC

3 More Days to Raise $15,000 more
for Revolution Books - New York City:
We urge you to be part of donating to theIndie-Go-Go campaign of Revolution Books - NYC to bring it to a successful finish by August 10th.  It is the flagship bookstore in our nationwide network and is modelling what a whole new society could actually look like.  As their spokesperson Andy Zee said, "Revolution Books, the name, is not a marketing slogan.  We mean both words of our name. It is a place that has the vision, the hope, and the actual practical understanding for an actual revolution, and that is the motivation behind it."

The simple and brute fact is that Revolution Books, the bookstore about the world for a radically different world, cannot survive and grow by selling books alone.  Check out their website to find out about some of their thousands of titles, including the works of revolutionary leader Bob Avakian; exciting upcoming programs; powerful past events there.

DONATE GENEROUSLY NOW.  Incredible premiums are available for a wide range of contributions.

Without RB, the world stays as it is. It's just that serious.

TELL THE WORLD about why they should give all they can to this unique revolutionary bookstore.
SEND RB-NY YOUR STORY about how Revolution Books matters to the world-- especially now. Send a vine, text, Youtube, or photo of you holding 6 revealing words on a card.  (RevBooksNYC@yahoo.com)

Dread Scott

Revolutionary artist Dread Scott has been creating inspiring, beautiful and provocative works of art for decades. Some of his works, including A MAN WAS LYNCHED BY POLICE YESTERDAY, were recently included in a show called For Freedoms at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York. He describes it as an updated version of a flag that the NAACP used to hang from their national headquarters in New York whenever someone was lynched, "A MAN WAS LYNCHED YESTERDAY." In the late 1920s and early '30s they would hang this from their headquarters as part of their anti-lynching campaign.

Kingdom of Earth

This rarely seen, late work of Tennessee Williams is the savage,sexually-charged and brutally funny story of three outcasts trapped in an isolated, once elegant Mississippi farmhouse by an encroaching flood. Written in the late 1960s, its metaphorical and taboo themes of race, gender and human survival are still just as sharp today.

We'll sit down with the three actors, Susan Priver, Daniel Felix de Weldon and Brian Burke. Playing at the Odyssey Theatre
