U of Chicago Police Viciously Assaulted & Arrested Revolutionaries On Campus Wed., Oct 26

"America Was NEVER Great! We Need to Overthrow, Not Vote for, This System!" This was the message being delivered by Noche Diaz, of the Get Into the Revolution National Organizing Tour, moments before he was violently assaulted and arrested by University of Chicago Police as he was peacefully leaving Campus North Residential Commons. Police assaulted others, sending one young woman to the hospital.
Noche Diaz will join us to talk about what happened, what it means, and why people need to stand against this.

The Ruins of Lifta

Lifta is the only Arab village abandoned in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war that has not been completely destroyed or repopulated by Jews. Its ruins are now threatened by an Israeli development plan that would convert it into an upscale Jewish neighborhood. For Menachem Daum, a filmmaker and an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn, it is the place that caused him to question things he had been told his whole life. The Ruins of Lifta - where the Holocaust and the Nakba Meet is the moving story of his journey.

We'll sit down to talk about this with Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky, the writers, producers and directors.

This is now the 2nd attack on this national tour, and on Noche Diaz, in 5 days.  The first attack was on Sat., at the October 22 demonstration against police terror and mass incarceration, where police on the scene actually violated the permit that had been issued earlier in the week for a march in the street, and jumped on people while they were on the sidewalk.  Then today, while U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was speaking on campus, the Revolution Club was engaging U of C students in discussion and debate and verbally exposing the actual character of John Kerry as a war criminal, citing not only the whole history of the U.S. in that region but the current onslaught against the civilians of Yemen which has been backed to the hilt by the U.S., Chicago police again attacked the club (and yes, the U of C police ARE a branch of the CPD) and in this case, after they had let Noche go and he was walking away, they suddenly reversed course and one of the pigs said, "We were told" to arrest him...

We received the following from The Stop Mass Incarceration Network:

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network calls on everyone to support and be part of the annual October 22 protests against police brutality, repression, and the criminalization of a generation. In the face of an intolerable situation in which police murder unarmed youth of color yet continue to go free... in which millions more continue to be sent off to prison, and in this way disproportionately affects the Black, Latino, Native American and other oppressed communities... and in which increasing repression in all aspects of life has been intensified by the Obama regime, with both Trump AND Clinton promising worse... this resistance must grow to include ALL segments of society, and it MUST BE STOPPED!

America at War with Itself - Henry Giroux

We'll talk with Henry A. Giroux about his latest book, America at War With Itself.  In it, he reflects on a wide range of social issues, from the campaign of Donald Trump to the police murder of Sandra Bland and the oppression aimed at immigrants, communities of color, Muslims, low-income families and those who challenge state and corporate power. Henry Giroux is the McMaster University professor for Scholarship in the Public Interest and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ryerson University.

Ann Wright on the Women's Boat to Gaza

Ann Wright will talk about the Women's Boat to Gaza, its illegal seizure by Israeli gunboats, and her subsequent detention by Israeli authorities.

September 15, a boat with dozens of women from many countries sailed from a Spanish port to break the Israeli siege of Gaza. Those aboard included legislators, journalists, doctors, professors and activists. There were Israeli citizens and Palestinians.

October 5, the boat was seized in international waters by an Israeli military vessel, and forced to sail to an Israeli port. Ann Wright and all the others were jailed, but have been released. Find out more here. Ann Wright is an activist and a former US ambassador.

Mary Laws,
Blueberry Toast

It's a Sunday morning, in a sunny, suburban kitchen. Barb is making breakfast for her husband, Walt. Their children, Jack and Jill, are busy writing a play. When Barb and Walt disagree over a seemingly innocuous piece of blueberry toast, the veneer of their polished existence begins to crack and what's underneath might eat them for breakfast.
We talk with Mary Laws, creator of Blueberry Toast, a powerful, whimsical, funny and disturbing play, currently at the Echo Theater

The Other Slavery

On the occasion of Indigenous Peoples' Day, we'll hear more of an interview I did with Andres Resendez, author of The Other Slavery, The Uncovered Story of Indian Enslavement in America

Resendez tells the little-known story of the enslavement of countless native people in the Americas, including the US. This slavery lasted into the 20th Century, and was particularly brutal in California, where whole peoples were enslaved.

The forced labor of native people helped provide the foundation for the US economy. This is an essential part of the history of the development of capitalism, and a history that has been unknown, or relegated to a few scattered scholarly papers, accessible to only a few.

Recent Days at Standing Rock

We're joined by Civil Rights Lawyer Jeffrey Haas, who recently joined the legal team at the Standing Rock Camp in North Dakota, where Native Americans and others have been protesting to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Radical Imaginations of Our Children
Should Be Nurtured

Educator and activist Bill Ayers
will talk about a piece he recently wrote about the present education system in the US, where "Students are forced to live in an environment that is geared to squashing intellectual curiosity and different thinking." He offers examples from the past and present, he envisions a radically different kind of education. This is taken from his latest book, Demand the Impossible! A Radical Manifesto

Bill Ayers is a distinguished professor of education and a senior university scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (retired), and founder of both the Small Schools Workshop and the Center for Youth and Society.

"Southwest of Salem"
"Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four" is a documentary about the nightmarish persecution of Elizabeth Ramirez, Cassandra Rivera, Kristie Mayhugh, and Anna Vasquez - four Latina lesbians wrongfully convicted of gang-raping two little girls in San Antonio, Texas, during the Satanic Panic witchhunt era of the 80s and 90s, and sentenced to long prison terms. The film also shows their fight against mysogyny, homophobia, and prosecutorial fervor in their struggle for exoneration after they spent nearly a decade behind bars
We'll hear an interview with the director,  Deborah S. Esquenazi, and Anna Vasquez, one of the 4

Southwest of Salem opens Friday, Sept 30 at the  Laemmle Music Hall Theatre.
