The Radical Imaginations of Our Children
Should Be Nurtured

Educator and activist Bill Ayers
will talk about a piece he recently wrote about the present education system in the US, where "Students are forced to live in an environment that is geared to squashing intellectual curiosity and different thinking." He offers examples from the past and present, he envisions a radically different kind of education. This is taken from his latest book, Demand the Impossible! A Radical Manifesto

Bill Ayers is a distinguished professor of education and a senior university scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (retired), and founder of both the Small Schools Workshop and the Center for Youth and Society.

"Southwest of Salem"
"Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four" is a documentary about the nightmarish persecution of Elizabeth Ramirez, Cassandra Rivera, Kristie Mayhugh, and Anna Vasquez - four Latina lesbians wrongfully convicted of gang-raping two little girls in San Antonio, Texas, during the Satanic Panic witchhunt era of the 80s and 90s, and sentenced to long prison terms. The film also shows their fight against mysogyny, homophobia, and prosecutorial fervor in their struggle for exoneration after they spent nearly a decade behind bars
We'll hear an interview with the director,  Deborah S. Esquenazi, and Anna Vasquez, one of the 4

Southwest of Salem opens Friday, Sept 30 at the  Laemmle Music Hall Theatre.
